SENIOR CLASS HISTORY
As we look back over the years, we can vividly recall that
hot, sultry day in August when 135 shy but anxious freshmen
burst noisily through the door of M. H. S. We were very
fortunate to have Mrs. Ball and Mr. Davis as our sponsors to
guide us through that unexperienced year. We chose Connie Sue
Bell, R. L. Stephens, Faye Renfro, Gretta Lou Philips and
Geraldine Nevels for class officers and Donna Ross for
cheerleader.
Our
sophomore year was filled with many experiences. We shall
never forget the day we walked the rails of the Southern
Railroad to Stearns Golf Course for our traditional sophomore
picnic. We also had a party in the gym of George Washington’s
Birthday. The presiding officers were Orville Hammock, Ronny
Lawson, Thurman Ridener, Emma Lee Gilreath, and Gretta Lou
Phillips. Our Cheerleader was Donna Ross. The advice from
our sponsors, Mrs. Knight and Mr. Bell was accepted
gratefully.
In our
junior year we prepared for the “most important year” by
summoning our courage and going from door to door selling
hose. The proceeds from the hose and the junior-senior ball
game entitled us to treat the seniors to the annual
junior-senior picnic at Cumberland Falls. Our class officers
were Sam Perry, Ronny Lawson, Barbara Stephens, Gretta Lou
Phillips, Jack Craig, and Dorman Ross. Faye Renfro was our
cheerleader. The measuring for our class rings made us more
anxious than ever to begin our senior year.
Now we are
seniors. We find our school year to be more exciting than we
had ever dreamed. We never have to be asked twice to flaunt
or rings and pictures. The sending of our invitations and
going on our senior trip is almost more than we can
anticipate. We are spending many enjoyable hours working on
our annual. The help Mrs. Bass and the other teachers are
giving us is greatly appreciated. We are very happy to have
Miss Hatfield and Mr. Davis as our sponsors. Our class
officers are Ronny Lawson, Gretta Lou Phillips, Mary Jane
Hogue, and Donald Perry. Shirley Watters is our cheerleader.
As our departure looms before us, we realize that we will not
welcome it as much as we had thought, but we are looking to
the future with eagerness and hope.
